The JVC XV-N310B is a good value for the money, providing solid disc compatibility and plenty of connectivity options. This single-disc DVD player also produces some top-quality images. For such a slim and compact unit, the XV-N310B is packed with features, making it an excellent first DVD player or even a second budget model for use in the kitchen, bedroom, or RV. The unit stands just 1-7/10 inches high and is styled in a smart black finish to blend in with most home theater setups without taking up too much space.
The player features direct digital progressive scan output via its component video connection for the ultimate in picture quality when hooked up to a digital television. The unit's optical digital audio output allows Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound signals to travel to a full-featured A/V receiver; alternately, the XV-N310B can simulate surround sound over a TV's stereo speakers or twin external speakers connected via the analog audio output.
The XV-N310B's video fine processor offers seven picture adjustments to customize the video display to user preferences. Another impressive feature is the Express Play Start that eliminates the annoying delay between loading a disc and the start of a movie; the first scene from a single-layer DVD is on the screen in only 4 seconds. The XV-N310B offers plenty of other playback features, including a disc memory resume function that lets viewers continue where they left off watching on up to 30 different discs. There is also a one-touch instant replay function, variable and slow search features, and a three-step zoom.
In addition to DVD-Video, the XV-N310B will play DVD-R/RW, audio CD, CD-R/RW, SVCD, and VCD. The player can create digital slideshows from JPEG picture discs and handle discs loaded with MP3 digital audio files. The JVC XV-N310B offers all the features and performance anyone could hope for in a budget player that retails for less than $100.
