JVC UX-N1W stereo microsystem

Date Published: 8/19/08

The JVC UX-N1W gives new meaning to the term compact stereo, as this system is barely larger than some clock radios. However, the UX-N1W has style and features that clock radios can only dream about.

Sporting an attractive black-and-white color scheme, the UX-N1W features a motorized CD player that utilizes a top-loading design to reduce the overall size. The CD player is compatible with CD-R/RW, as well as discs encoded with MP3 files. It also has a built-in AM/FM tuner.

The UX-N1W has detached stereo speakers in bass reflex cabinets. A dynamic bass boost and simple bass and treble controls allow a small level of control over the sound quality. The amplifier supplies a rather paltry 6.5 watts per channel, but considering the size, that isn't too surprising.

This microsystem features a front-panel auxiliary audio input for the connection of a portable audio device such as an iPod or other MP3 player, and the system will power up and switch to the auxiliary source when a signal is detected. To make sure it completely replaces your clock radio, the UX-N1W has sleep and alarm functions, with a separate volume setting for waking up. The UX-N1W is not the most powerful or best-sounding system available, but it is well equipped for use in a bedroom or dorm room.

Pros: Ultra-compact design, MP3 compatibility, auxiliary input for a portable audio player
Cons: Low power

Warranty
1 year parts and labor
