JVC's LT-26X506 is a lovely 26-inch HD-ready LCD TV that goes easy on the wallet. The widescreen monitor comes with a tilt-and-swivel pedestal stand that can be removed for mounting the slim display on the wall (separate hardware is required). Stereo speakers are built in below the screen, keeping the width of the monitor to a reasonable size.

The picture is very sharp and bright, with automatic video noise reduction and a 3-D Y/C digital comb filter to reduce or eliminate dot crawl, cross-color interference, and other distractions. The LT-26X506's native screen resolution is 1,366X768, with a contrast ratio of 800:1. A separate high-definition tuner is necessary to display full HD programming. When viewing standard 4:3 aspect ratio content, you can configure the picture to the wide-format screen by selecting among regular, full, panorama, or cinema picture formats.

The speakers are rated for 10 watts of total audio output, and they are equipped for MTS stereo and simulated surround sound. Convenience features include an automatic clock set, a front-panel lock, an adjustable sleep timer, a previous channel return button, and a high-speed channel changer. The LT-26X506 has an adequate selection of connection choices, including an RF input for connecting to a cable or antenna source, three composite video inputs, one S-video input, and one component video input. Audio outputs are present to send the audio to external speakers, and the LT-26X506 also has a headphone jack. The remote control is configured to manage the TV's functions and to handle several associated components.
