The JVC LT-17X576 is a 17-inch LCD TV that can perform double duty as a desktop computer monitor or HDTV display. The flat screen presents a clear, bright picture with little glare or distortion, and the viewing angle is 176 degrees, ensuring it is visible from anywhere in a room.
Brightness is rated at 450cd/m2, and programming can be displayed at 480i or 480p, which works very well with a progressive scan DVD player. High-definition content can be displayed at 720p when connected to an external HD receiver. A 3-D Y/C digital comb filter reduces rainbow effects and dot crawl for a sharp, well-defined picture, and the contrast ratio is 500:1.
Film content is processed using 3:2 pulldown conversion to ensure smoothness in action scenes. Six picture formats are available to accommodate a range of viewing options for standard and wide-format content.
The LT-17X576 has a picture-in-picture feature that can be used to watch a TV program while viewing content from a PC or another component such as a DVD player or VCR. The internal audio system produces a total of 12 watts through the stereo speakers, and the LT-17X576 can connect to an external receiver and speakers.
Among the convenience features are five video presets, an automatic clock set, a multifunctional timer, a front-panel lock, and a 10-minute automatic shutoff when the screen is receiving no signal. The side of the monitor has an audio/video, an S-video, and a component video input, and the LT-17X576 also provides a 15-pin D-sub PC input and an RF input.
The remote control is not a universal model, but it is therefore simpler and more convenient to use than some other remotes, with fewer buttons in a comfortable layout.
The silver monitor of the JVC LT-17X576 is very light and compact, with a tilt-and-swivel pedestal stand below the black-framed wide-format screen. Stereo speakers are built into the silver panel below the screen, so they don't take up any extra desktop space.
