JVC Kaboom RV-NB1 boom box
Date Published: 1/3/06
For a while, it looked as though JVC would eliminate its line of Kaboom boom boxes, and if that had happened, we would never have had the pleasure of listening to the RV-NB1. That would have been a major disappointment for fans of these incredibly powerful systems, and luckily some smart person at JVC decided to re-introduce the line.
This bi-amplified powerhouse features 52 total watts of power, which blows away most ordinary boom boxes. It has the speakers to handle that power too. The RV-NB1 has two front-firing 3-3/16-inch full-range speakers and, perhaps more importantly, a pair of 6-5/16-inch side-firing subwoofers to produce an amazingly deep, rich sound, with a frequency response that extends well below 100Hz. While this can't match the reproduction of a good home system, it is very impressive in a portable boom box.
The RV-NB1 has a CD player that is compatible with CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 files burned to disc. The small display reads MP3 Text and ID3 Tags, along with CD Text data. The CD player is programmable with up to 50 tracks, and it has repeat and random play modes. The AM/FM receiver features a digital tuner to lock in on desired stations while eliminating interference, and 15 AM and 30 FM presets make it easy to punch up favorite stations. The auto-reverse cassette recorder has synchro-start with the CD player for one-touch recording.
One feature we love is the auxiliary input for plugging in a portable audio device such as an MP3 player. The JVC Kaboom RV-NB1 is one of the most powerful boom boxes around, with a bass response that will impress everyone.
