The HR-DVS3U is not a normal VCR, and with a suggested retail price of $1,400, it had better deliver something unique. It offers all the traditional features of VHS and S-VHS recording and playback, including a one-touch VCR+ Plus function. What really elevates the HR-DVS3U is its integrated MiniDV player and recorder. Instead of connecting a digital camcorder to the TV for playback, MiniDV tapes can be directly inserted into the HR-DVS3U for editing or copying to and from VHS or S-VHS.

The Random Assemble Editing feature allows users to transfer content from MiniDV to VHS at the touch of a button, and multiple scenes can be stored in the VCR for making additional copies. The HR-DVS3U also lets editors add narration and sound effects to home video soundtracks. Alternately, the unit can send video directly to a home computer for editing.

This is by no means an inexpensive unit. However, for avid MiniDV camcorder users, the HR-DVS3U proves to be an innovative and very convenient machine.
