JVC EX-A1 compact stereo system
Date Published: 1/9/08
Luxurious isn't often a word used to describe electronic gear, but its an apt description of JVC's EX-A1. This micro component system features a disc player that is compatible with DVD-Audio and DVD-Video, as well as DVD-R/RW, CD, SVCD and VCD, and CD-R/RW encoded with MP3 and JPEG files. The EX-A1 has an integrated Dolby Digital and DTS decoder that produces a stereo down-mix from surround sound signals.
The amplifier produces a modest 30 watts into two channels, and the sound can be adjusted with bass and treble controls. In addition to a progressive scan output for connection to a digital television, the system has standard analog video outputs, and there is also an optical digital audio output. The EX-A1 has a tuner with presets to store 30 FM and 15 AM stations.
What is most stunning about this system is the speakers. The real cherry bass reflex cabinets sport full-range 3-3/16-inch speakers with cones made from real birch--that?s right, wood cones. The dynamic range of this system is 88dB with a signal-to-noise ratio of 95dB. The system has a subwoofer output, which will add the low-end that is missing from the speakers. The rich sound and impeccable design of the JVC EX-A1 will complete an elegant office or bedroom.
