John Deere Frontier 5.0-HP Dual-Stage Snow Thrower ST0524
Date Published: 4/21/06
John Deere's most compact two-stage snow thrower, the Frontier ST0524, features many of the perks of its bigger brothers and sisters, but in a smaller, less powerful package.
Designed for medium jobs, the ST0524 is powered by a dependable 5.5-horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine, which features both manual and electric start. The 24-inch clearing width cuts a nice-sized path through the snow, especially for such a small machine. You can run it any of six forward or two reverse speeds, which is one more than a lot of competitors offer. One important note about this model: The handlebars are a lawnmower-style loop design, so if you prefer the more traditional plow-style, you might want to consider moving up to Deere's next larger unit.
The chute deflector is manually operated, but the turning radius can be adjusted from one end of the 190-degree arc to the other in just three turns of the remote handle.
The John Deere ST0524 is a versatile snow thrower that has adjustable speeds in a value package.
