Jenn-Air JES8850BA slide-in electric range
Date Published: 8/27/08
The Jenn-Air JES8850BA slide-in electric range slips seamlessly into the kitchen for a perfect fit between the cabinets. A bit different from the traditional Jenn-Air range, this electric model requires overhead ventilation and doesn't offer the manufacturer's modular cooking elements.
Instead, this 30-inch model offers a versatile, smooth, radiant cooking surface. Well- equipped for this category, the JES8850BA includes an adjustable Quick-Twin dual element that can be used in either a 9- or 12-inch configuration. We especially like this large dual element as it encourages matching the heat to the size of the pan -- a sure way to get the best results when cooking with large pans on an electric range.
The other feature we can't help but like is Jenn-Air's performance-oriented convection oven. Long a favorite of ours, this oven offers two convection speeds -- one for baking and one for roasting. Convection cooked meats are tastier, moister and quicker roasting in this oven. Baked goods, especially large, solid items such as cakes, breads and pies, are more evenly browned when using the convection setting as opposed to using the bake setting without the fan.
A number of convenience features make this range appealing to the consumer who plans to cook more than just basic meals in the oven. A food dehydrating setting, a bread proofing mode, a warming drrawer and a probe for cooking by temperature expand the ease in which more complex dishes can be prepared.
Certainly an excellent model for those who want to experiment with foods beyond the usual, Jenn-Air's JES8850BA gets a thumbs-up from us in the electric slide-in range category.
