Jenn-Air 30-Inch Full Size Built-in Microwave Oven JMC8130D
Date Published: 7/27/05
Although it resembles a wall oven, the Jenn-Air JMC8130D is an expensive model from Jenn-Air is really just a microwave in disguise.
The difference in the JMC8130D lies solely in its oven-like exterior. In place of the typical microwave design, this model offers a drop-down door and an installation technique that makes it look and fit just like a conventional oven. Also available in a 27-inch version, this unit can be used only as a built-in.
Offered at such a high price, it really makes sense to consider this oven when the homeowner dislikes the look of a typical microwave oven and wants to totally hide it from view. The function of this model doesn't differ much from a far less expensive microwave. In fact, in some respects, this model has less to offer. Offering only two-stage programmable cooking, this unit is unlikely to defrost gently enough to prevent pre-cooking and dry out.
On the plus side, the JMC8130D offers a sophisticated sensor that enables the user to cook and reheat many foods virtually error free. The 1.5-cubic-foot capacity provides plenty of room to handle tasks such as cooking vegetables and reheating casseroles. Fast results can also be expected thanks to 1,000 watts of microwave power. An interior turntable works to ensure even heating time after time.
Although solidly built, the lack of convenience features on the the Jenn-Air JMC8130D coupled with the high price tag serves to disappoint. Far more versatility can be gleaned in this price range by selecting a speedcook or convection- microwave model.
