Janome Quilter's Model 6019QC noncomputerized sewing machines

Date Published: 8/20/08

Janome is making a big push to please quilters by adding lots of features they can appreciate to many of their models. The Quilter's Model 6019QC is a good example of this trend.

An entry-level sewing machine for the quilting enthusiast, the 6019QC offers Janome's Superior Feed System. Previously offered on the very high-end models, this system is welcomed by quilters because it allows them to start at the very edge of the fabric when piecing. The extra-high presser foot lift allows 5/8-inch clearance, which is useful for sliding multiple fabrics and battings under the foot.

Lots of accessories are available for this machine, making it possible to do most popular sewing techniques, from cord application to pintucking and "sewing-in-the-ditch".

Of special interest to quilters is the even-feed foot with quilt guide. This accessory is included with the machine and does an excellent job of keeping all layers of fabric in place--no more sliding out of alignment as you sew. Seamstresses also love the one-step buttonhole. Spending a bit more for this feature is well worth it. Beginners opting for cheap machines without this type of buttonholer often experience frustration and end up damaging yards of valuable fabric.

Versatile enough for basic sewing tasks in addition to quilting, this model offers 19 stitch choices and has slide adjustments for both stitch width and stitch length. The handy zigzag stitch can be set to stitches up to 6.5mm in width, fairly wide for a machine in this price range. Equipped with ample storage, this mechanical model has storage in the top lid and in a slide-out drawer below the bed.

A well-rounded machine, the Janome Quilter's Model 6019QC makes a great choice for those who are primarily interested in quilting, but need the practicality of a machine that works for crafts, home decorating, and fashion sewing as well.

Pros: Built-in needle threader, one-step buttonhole, quilting kit included
Cons: Small screws

Warranty
1 year, labor; 2 years, electronics; 10 years (limited)
