Hyundai ImageQuest Q90U 19-inch LCD monitor
Date Published: 10/2/07
Computer displays aren't the first things that come to mind when you hear the name Hyundai, but in addition to the ImageQuest Q90U, the company offers a number of LCD and CRT displays, as well as LCD and plasma TVs.
The Q90U has a 19-inch viewable area that appears slightly larger, thanks to the slim bezel that surrounds it. The native resolution of 1,280X1,024 delivers sharp text, even at small font sizes. Images have good contrast and bright clear colors, although some banding is noticeable in grayscale images. Viewing angles of 170 degrees horizontal and 155 degrees vertical help reduce blurring and color shift when viewing the display off-axis.
The package includes Hyundai's ImageTune software, which provides tools for calibrating color. You can manually adjust the color settings or use the wizards to walk you through the process
The display's 3-millisecond pixel response time sounds more impressive than it actually is. The display has minimal ghosting and blurring in video or fast-action games, but not substantially less than other displays in this price range.
Adjustment options are limited. You can tilt the display forward or backward, but there are no height, swivel, or pivot options. The display is VESA-compatible, so you can add an arm or wall mount if adjustability is an issue. The Q90U also has a dual-hinge stand, allowing you to mount it directly on a wall without buying a wall mount, although adjustment options are still limited.
Two USB 2.0 ports on the right side of the base allow you to utilize the Q90U as a mini USB hub for plugging in digital cameras, scanners, and other peripherals. A built-in power supply saves some space and reduces cable clutter. The display has built-in speakers of typically mediocre quality, as well as a headphone jack.
Five buttons under the lower-right bezel provide access to on-screen controls, as well as volume up/down and auto-adjust (analog only). Analog controls include size, position, and color, while digital controls include brightness and contrast.
The Q90U supports analog and digital inputs, so you can share it between two computers. The package comes with D-sub and DVI video cables.
Pro: A good choice for general-purpose and some business use, analog and digital interfaces, two USB ports
Con: Few adjustment options, no S-video or composite video inputs
