Husqvarna/Viking Designer I

Date Published: 6/17/08

Husqvarna/Viking consistently receives praise for its excellent computerized sewing machines and the newest version (software version 1.22) of the Designer I is no exception. If fact, the Designer I is the cream of the crop. Built in Sweden, this machine offers one of the largest machine embroidery hoops at 6X14.2 inches. It also boasts 600 built-in stitches, a color touch screen, and multidirectional feed dogs. A sensor system controls the foot allowing it to adjust for any fabric thickness. It also makes hands-free sewing possible and automatically stops with the needle down for flawless turns. The machine includes a built-in disk drive for unlimited software and embroidery updates, which can be accessed via the internet. At this writing, many dealers were offering a free cabinet (valued at $999) and a set of sewing accessories (valued at $300) with the purchase of this model. A fabulous machine for those who do it all, you can’t go wrong on this one, providing you can justify the very high cost. As an alternative, check out the Designer II, which allows you to create a less expensive machine tailored to your specific interests from a selection of pre-packaged themes; themes include home decorating, embroidery, quilting, and heirloom sewing.
