Husqvarna 345 e gas chain saw

Date Published: 5/2/07

The Husqvarna 345 e gas chain saw starts surprisingly easily, runs smoothly and can take down good-sized trees. The 345 e will meet or exceed the wood cutting needs of most homeowners.

The Husqvarna 345 e features a decompression valve and a well-placed fuel pump to make starting this saw pretty easy. This easy starter fires up a 3-hp gas engine that is powerful enough to cut down the occasional tree up to about 2 feet in diameter. Husqvarna's forged three-piece crankshaft helps account for the durability of this chain saw. An air injection filter system keeps over 97 percent of dirt from even reaching the filter, so it's keep clean for a longer period of time. A vibration reduction system that isolates the handles from the engine with rubber mounts or steel springs keeps vibration to a minimum.

We appreciated that the 345 e really does start with less effort than most saws. It runs smoothly without excessive vibration. The slim, well balanced body maneuvers nicely, and it is light compared to many saws. The Husqvarna 345 e zips right through hardwood, making it a useful firewood saw. One of the shorter blades that fit this model would work well for limb removal and other chores.

The double-acting chain brake and the chain catcher keep the user in relative safety. The chain adjusts quickly and easily without tools. The automatic oiler keeps the chain oiled without your help. The 345 e weighs 10.6 pounds without the bar and chain, and accepts bars between 13 and 18 inches, which increases its versatility.

If you are looking for a quality chain saw that starts easily and runs smoothly to help you prepare firewood each season, the Husqvarna 345 e gas chain saw might be your answer. It's a reliable saw from a reputable manufacturer. The MSRP of $299 includes an 18-inch bar.

Pros: Starts easily, runs smoothly, cuts well
Cons: Gas and oil fuel mix
