Realistic customers are not going to expect much from a $99 multifunction device. But if you put the Hewlett-Packard name on the inexpensive multifunction device, expectations will automatically rise.

The HP OfficeJet 4315 isn't going to provide top-of-the-line features, but it will give SOHO users with low-volume needs -- less than 1,500 prints per month -- the basics in a multifunction device.

The OfficeJet 4315 can print and copy at speeds up to 20 ppm in black and 14 ppm in color, and the unit works with both Macintosh and Windows computers. This multifunction device offers a top resolution when printing or copying of 1200X1200 dpi in black and 4800X1200 dpi in color. The copier function can resize originals at between 25 and 200 percent. The unit's scanner runs at 1200 dpi optical resolution.

Finally, the OfficeJet 4315 offers fax capabilities, which is rare in a low-priced multifunction device. The unit sends documents at speeds up to 20 ppm.
