Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum F5912900

The Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum F5912900 is a good choice for those who need to deep clean their carpets, but also need to maneuver a cleaner in tight spaces. The Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum has a standard cleaning path (unlike many wide-path steam vacuums) and a low profile for reaching under furniture. This will be a benefit for those who want to clean their floors without moving or rearranging a room full of furniture --your back will thank you. Plus, this model can be used on bare floors, including tile and sealed wood floors.
The Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum has five spinning brushes along the main vacuum head. These SpinScrub brushes help the machine's hot water and cleaning solution mixture loosen dirt and soil for extraction. We tested the Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum on carpets and hardwood floors, and found it performed best on carpets. It left the hardwood floors too wet for our liking. In the end, we determined that other cleaning methods such as a steam mop would work best on hard floors. That said, the Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum was a decent performer on soiled carpets, removing most stains. It has adequate suction and doesn't seem to clog on loose carpet fibers and pet hairs like other models we've tried, although it was necessary to remove excess debris from the spinning brushes on occasion. Only when it was time to tackle a set-in juice stain, did the Hoover seem to balk. However, after pre-treating the stain and going over it a couple of times with this model, we were successful in removing it.
The Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum uses a two-tank system -- one for clean water and cleaning solution, and another tank to collect dirty water extracted from carpets. Both tanks are easy to remove and clip back into place. We would have preferred a built-in soap dispenser to automatically add the right amount of detergent as we cleaned, but instead we had to manually add the cleaning solution to the clean water tank. This is a more costly method because if one has leftover water in the tank that must be poured out, the cleaning solution goes down the drain as well.
While we like the Hoover Upright Steam Vacuum for its soil removal, reasonable price and ease of use, we'd prefer it also offered a clean-water rinse. Overall, its performance earns it a place high in its class.
Pros: Reasonable price, adequate cleaning
Cons: No clean-water rinse
