Hoover S3755 Wind Tunnel Powerhead Canister

Date Published: 4/2/07

A reasonably priced canister vacuum, the Hoover Wind Tunnel S3755 gets kudos for its initial suction power. We also like the fact that it's fairly small in size and therefore easy to store.

It comes with a powerhead attachment for use on carpet and floors. Turn the brushroll on to get deep cleaning of carpets, then turn it off for damage-free cleaning of hardwood, tile and linoleum. Fingertip controls make operation easy; it's especially convenient to change modes for floor surfaces without the hassle of bending over to turn off the brushroll.

Unlike many comparably priced models, this one offers a light on the head that makes it easier to see debris, especially on dark colored carpets. Unfortunately, this light is on only when the brushroll is in operation. Still, it's unusual to find a light at all on a canister in this category these days.

The bagless design saves you trips to the store for replacement bags, but isn't quite as effective as a bagged model for containing dirt. But, if convenience is your priority, the S3755 may just be the right choice for you.

Our users found this Wind Tunnel to be a quiet and effective machine. The powerhead was reported to be on the large side and a bit clumsy to maneuver. The 22-foot cord and 6-foot hose are typical of small size canisters. If your rooms are large, you may want to look for a larger machine with a longer cord so the vacuum will not need to be plugged in as often.

Equipped with a HEPA filter, this machine comes with a filter-cleaning tool. It's not particularly effective; you may wish to clean the filter with a stream of running water instead of the tool.

Also included are a crevice tool and dusting brush. Both are quite brittle and not of particularly high quality. Lacking is a floor brush, which we find to be the ideal tool for cleaning hard floors. Telescopic wands are provided on this model. They're convenient to use and made of metal instead of cheap plastic; you can't help but like them on a model priced less than $230.

All in all, we like the Hoover S3755 Wind Tunnel in spite of its drawbacks. It offers the features you would expect at this price, plus a few desirable extras.

Pros: Offers light, bagless, quiet, metal telescopic wands, compact size for storage
Cons: Filter cleaning tool is ineffective, powerhead is bulky, no floor brush
