The Honeywell Enviracaire 50250-N air purifier is a solid performer with an attractive price. We were pleased with the way this air purifier pulled pollutants out of the air, including pet allergens.

The Enviracaire 50250-N has everything we look for in an air purifier, including a lifetime true HEPA filter. The HEPA filter, which is designed to trap dust, allergens, smoke and other pollutants, doesn't need replacement for the life of the air purifier. This saves the cost of buying replacement filters. Keep in mind, however, that the HEPA filter will need some maintenance -- it will need to be cleaned occasionally. The HEPA filter is paired with a carbon filter, which is used to trap larger particles and odors. The carbon filter will need to be replaced, and there is a filter-change indicator light that will let you know when to change it. We find the Honeywell Enviracaire 50250-N does an admirable job of clearing both allergens and odors from air.

Our biggest complaint is that the Enviracaire is noisy. It has three speeds, and while the lowest speed runs relatively quietly, the other two speeds are noisier than we'd like. If style or lightweight portability is important to you, the Enviracaire isn't likely to fit the bill. It has a round design, which means it pulls in air from all sides. Unfortunately, this 360-degree air intake requires the Honeywell Enviracaire to take up a considerable amount of room. This also means that it is sure to stand out -- after all, it doesn't have a slim design.

Overall, the Honeywell Enviracaire 50250-N is an effective air purifier that doesn't require a lot of upkeep. It costs less than some of its competitors, but the tradeoffs are that it doesn't run as quietly and it's not very stylish.
