Holmes Micathermic CNSL heater BH3950-U

Date Published: 1/23/07

There have been a few notable advances in heating technology recently, not the least of which is the use of the mineral mica as an alternative to traditional heating elements. If you thought all portable heaters were created equal, you'll want to check out the Holmes Micathermic CNSL heater BH3950-U (Sears item 03276161000), which uses the new technology very effectively.

The most notable feature of the micathermic element is how quickly it warms up. Because it kicks off heat almost immediately, the unit can use less electricity, since you're not running the meter as you wait for the room to get warm. It also has a very thin profile and can be utilized over a large surface area, a feature the Holmes heater uses to its advantage. The lightweight unit weighs just 14 pounds, and has a width of just 6 inches.

The Holmes Micathermic CNSL heater BH3950-U has a slick, high-tech design with an adjustable thermostat and cool-to-the-touch housing. Because of its combination of effective looks and efficient heating capability, Consumer Guide has designated this heater a Best Buy.

Pros: Fast heat-up, thin profile
Cons: Price

Warranty
1 year, limited
