Hitachi DZ-MV750MA DVD camcorder
Date Published: 2/26/08
The DZ-MV750MA is the midrange model in Hitachi's current line of DVD camcorders, sitting squarely between the DZ-MV780A and the DZ-MV730A in terms of price and features. Whereas both of those units offer a choice of recording video and stills to DVD-RAM or DVD-R, the DZ-MV750MA can also record to rewriteable DVD-RW. This opens up a host of in-camera editing possibilities, and it ensures compatibility with most home DVD players and PCs. As with other DVD camcorders, there's no need to rewind or fast-forward a tape to review material or find a blank space to begin recording, and the camera automatically makes sure that you never accidentally record over material you want to keep.
The DZ-MV750MA's styling is very similar to the other two models in the series. It handles comfortably, with all the controls logically located and within easy reach. The optical suite resembles the lower-price DZ-MV730A, with a 1/6-inch CCD that delivers 680,000 effective pixels for both video and stills. The resulting images in well-lit environments display accurate colors with clean, sharp lines. The quality diminishes noticeably as the quality of light deteriorates, but for most vacation and family gatherings the images are still acceptable. The 2-1/2-inch LCD monitor provides accurate framing of shots and easy reviewing of recorded material, while the 16X optical/240X digital zoom operates smoothly.
In addition to recording digital stills to disc, the DZ-MV750MA can capture stills to SD or MMC card at a maximum resolution of 640X480. The DZ-MV750MA offers automatic controls for exposure, shutter speed, and focus, as well as a number of program AE functions. These provide handy preset exposures for shooting situations such as sports, portrait, low light, and sand and snow. There is also a choice of three white balance settings. The manual control options are less comprehensive, although this is clearly a camera aimed at point-and-shooters seeking the easy operation and high-quality images of the DVD format.
