Hitachi 42EDT41 42-inch plasma TV

Date Published: 2/7/08

The 42EDT41 is a 42-inch plasma TV from Hitachi that provides enhanced-definition viewing. This EDTV monitor is beautifully designed, with a detachable swivel stand and speakers to offer the maximum in flexibility. Controls are located along the bottom edge of the monitor, where they are easily accessed but out of sight. The monitor is less than four inches deep, and it is light as well; if you choose to install it on the wall, you will need a separate wall-mount bracket. The screen has an anti-reflective glass shield that also enhances contrast. Signals at 480i are automatically up-converted to 480p, ensuring a detailed and intense picture. The wide-format screen is ideal for viewing movies and high-definition content (with the addition of an external HD receiver), but standard images are treated well also, with a choice of five picture formats. A 4MB 3-D Y/C digital comb filter produces sharp pictures without hanging dots or rainbow effects, and movies are automatically adapted to the video screen with 3:2 pulldown conversion. Three color temperature settings, including one setting specifically for black and white content, make color adjustments quick and painless. Twin tuners allow a choice of split-screen or picture-in-picture viewing. You can also freeze the picture when you want to record information from the screen or examine a scene more closely. The removable stereo speakers produce a total of 20 watts of audio output, with expanded bass tones, simulated surround sound, and automatic volume leveling available, along with four audio presets optimized for movies, music, speech, and a custom setting. Other convenience features include on/off and sleep timers, as well as a screen saver that can be activated after a preset time. The 42EDT41 is equipped to connect with a range of components, including a computer and DVD player, as the rear panel contains a DVI input, two sets of component video, two audio/video inputs, and two S-video inputs. The universal remote control is color-coded to help clarify the various functions, and it has controls specifically targeting a DVD player, which is a natural addition to this TV.
