Hewlett-Packard LP2465 24-Inch Widescreen LCD Monitor
Date Published: 4/6/07
The HP LP2465 is an attractive 24-inch widescreen LCD monitor that, while targeted at business users, is also an attractive choice for home and home business users who need more desktop real estate.
The 1,920X1,200 resolution is great for viewing HD content. Surprisingly, HP has chosen not to run with this capability, instead limiting the inputs to a pair of DVI connections that do not support HDCP. This means that copy-protected HD content, such as that used in some Blu-ray and HD DVD material, won't play on the LP2465.
The LP2465 is mated with a stand that provides height, tilt and swivel adjustments. The stand also works with the display to provide full rotation support, allowing you to move between landscape and portrait modes as your needs dictate. The LP2465 may be limited to two DVI inputs, but HP includes adapters to connect analog VGA sources via DVI. This ensures compatibility with older, analog-only graphics cards.
Surrounded by a thin silver bezel, the LP2465 is certainly stylish. Despite the thin frame, HP places five small control buttons and a power-on LED on the front panel. In addition to the power button, there is an input select and three buttons for controlling the OSD. One button (the "-" or minus) performs dual roles, serving as the Auto button when the OSD isn't open. The Auto function adjusts image size, location and other variables whenever you use an analog source.
Display quality is quite good, with uniform color and brightness across the screen. When viewing a favorite DVD action movie, the refresh rate is high enough to prevent most motion artifacts. This is also a boon for gamers who worry about motion artifacts in fast-paced games.
Other features include a LiteSaver energy setting utility, as well as a Display Assistant that lets you configure the display using the keyboard and mouse as opposed to the LP2465's function buttons. There are four USB ports, with two on the underside of the display and two along the edge.
Our only real complaints with the LP2465 are the lack of additional inputs and the missing HDCP support. However, neither of these failings should be an issue for home business or small business use.
The HP LP2465 widescreen LCD monitor is a good choice for general-purpose office use, home users who want to manage large collections of digital photos and anyone who needs to simultaneously view multiple windows and applications.
