Harman Kardon AVR 435 A/V receiver
Date Published: 1/8/08
Some people have a seemingly inborn ability to configure the audio output of complex audio/video apparatus. For the rest of us, Harman Kardon has created EzSet/EQ, an automatic set-up process for home theater systems, and it is integrated with the high-performance 7.1 channel AVR 435. EzSet/EQ includes a microphone that is placed at the preferred listening position in a room, and the AVR 435 does the rest. Based on what the microphone hears, the receiver adjusts speaker levels and even compensates for the different distances between speakers, producing a perfectly configured audio delivery.
The AVR 435's amplifier provides 65 watts into seven channels or 80 watts into two channels (stereo). As a seven-channel receiver, it has built-in processing for Dolby Digital EX, DTS-ES 6.1 Matrix and Discrete, DTS NEO:6, DTS 96/24, and Dolby Pro Logic IIx, along with Harman/Kardon's Logic 7 technology. The AVR 435 even supports Dolby Headphone, which simulates surround sound through headphones. The receiver can also decode MP3 and WMA digital music files. For those who are not configured for full 7.1 sound, the rear channels can feed audio to another room, and the feed is assignable. The complete remote control makes it easy to navigate these complex features.
The AVR 435 has five A/V inputs, five S-video inputs, four analog audio inputs, and four coaxial and four optical digital audio inputs. There are also coaxial and optical digital audio outputs on the rear panel. The unit has an analog input for DVD-Audio and SACD, along with 7.1 channel pre-amplifier outputs. Bass management is accomplished with a quad crossover for precise control. On the video side, there are three assignable HD component video inputs. The AVR 435 is an ideal receiver for someone who wants all the features of an advanced receiver but wants to leave the audio configuration to the professionals.
