Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro14 Food Processor 70595A

The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro14 Food Processor 70595A is an impressive-looking machine with oversize bowl, feed tube and blades. This unit comes with a white power base with suction cup feet, an extra-large 14-cup clear work bowl, a lid with dual purpose oversize feed tube and food pusher, a multipurpose stainless-steel chopping blade, a reversible slicing/shredding blade and a thick slicing blade. It stands nearly 16 inches tall when fully assembled and has a 7.5-inch-diameter footprint. An interesting facet of this machine is that the work bowl diameter is almost an inch wider at the top than the base. The extra-wide bowl is great for processing large batches of pureed vegetables, chopped nuts, shredded produce and more.
Another innovative feature is the specially designed feed tube, which is a full 5 inches wide by 3 inches deep to accommodate a wedge of cheese, whole tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, peppers and other larger produce items, without having to cut them into quarters. The feed tube has a hinged divider, which also lets you stack thinner items, such as carrots, celery or pepperoni to keep them from falling over in the chute.
For safety reasons, the cover of the feed chute must be in its locked position for the motor to engage. This means that, although a tomato will fit easily in the chute, a potato or cucumber will still need to be cut in half or thirds so that the lid will close. Still, it's far easier to cut the item in half than into the smaller pieces required by many standard feed chutes.
The Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro14 food processor has one simple control dial with settings for P (pulse), and four continuous speeds. We found the first speed to be so effective, however, that four separate speeds may be overkill. We also liked the lighted control dial on this model, which makes it very easy to see when the unit is plugged in and properly assembled for use. The blue dial illuminates when the bowl, lid and food chute are all securely locked in place.
One other simple feature that deserves mention is the suction cup feet, which literally bond the machine to your counter. You'll never have to worry about this machine shifting or rocking during use. The grip is so firm that we actually had to tilt and exert pressure to lift the unit off the counter for storage.
In terms of performance, we were not disappointed. The stainless-steel chopping blade is more than a match for chopping onions, tomatoes, nuts or blending pesto or salsa. The slicing blade is perfect for cabbage, carrots, potatoes and more. Most foods are processed in just seconds.
Pros: Extra-large feed tube to process whole vegetables, lighted control dial
Cons: Large bowl not well equipped for small tasks
