Haier XQG65-11SU

The Chinese-made Haier XQG65-11SU is a washer/dryer that uses the same drum for both functions, which is an enticing idea for those with limited space and a big pile of dirty laundry. A combination machine that accomplishes both tasks with gusto, the XQG65-11SU operates somewhat differently than a separate washer and dryer. As a result, you should be aware of the differences so you can avoid any disappointment should you choose to purchase this machine.
The biggest difference between typical laundry care equipment and the XQG65-11SU -- or any single-drum combo for that matter -- is that this type of machine employs a condensation dryer. A condensation dryer does not vent, making it a good choice for buildings where there is no outside wall available for ducting. And while the XQG65-11SU's wash cycle is fairly typical, its drying cycle is not. It takes far longer to dry laundry in this machine than you might expect, partly because it's powered by standard household 120-volt power. Because clothing dries so slowly in the XQG65-11SU, we recommend loading the machine in the morning and giving it a number of hours to completely wash and dry your laundry. While it provides a novel solution to the space crunch, the XQG65-11SU does not offer the performance advantages of separate washers and dryers. It can, however, be an appreciated laborsaving device in a small apartment where outside venting is impossible.
When it comes to features, the XQG65-11SU is well equipped. There are eight fabric care cycles from which to choose and an automated water temperature selection based on load type. A pre-wash/soak cycle helps to combat tough stains. Three water levels provide options for matching water usage to load size, which helps save money, electricity and natural resources.
During the wash cycle, detergent and fabric softeners are added at optimal times thanks to three separate dispensers. When the wash cycle finishes, the laundry immediately proceeds to one of the preset drying cycles: heavy, normal or delicate.
This competitively priced washer/dryer offers a durable stainless steel drum that can be expected to hold up well. A unique alternative for the urban dweller, the XQG65-SU is available in white and opens up a whole new world of possibilities when it comes to doing laundry in a small space.
Pros: Does not require a 240 volt power outlet, uses one drum for both washing and drying, great for space savings and installations that lack an outside wall for ventilation
Cons: Long drying times
