Haier 400 Watt Food Processor HFP400SS
Date Published: 4/18/07
The Haier Food Processor HFP400SS is a reasonably priced 11-cup machine with easy-to-use touchpad controls and efficient processing.
The base is styled in brushed stainless steel and black, and houses a 400-watt motor. While this was less powerful than some others in its class, we found the 400 watts to be sufficient for all types of tasks, including chopping onions, pureeing cooked vegetables, blending thick dough and even chopping hard cheeses to a fine consistency. As a bonus, the HFP400SS is surprisingly quiet during operation.
The work bowl capacity is 11 cups and we performed several of our tests to a full (or near full) capacity with no visible strain on the motor. We overloaded the bowl with an extra-large batch of quick bread batter and were impressed with how thorough a job the machine did. The spinning blade actually pulled the ingredients down into its path so no ingredients get left unprocessed. You simply get evenly chopped, diced, or pureed ingredients in short order. In fact, we even chopped whole onions, without first cutting into quarters and still achieved uniform diced pieces.
This unit has a smooth, touchpad panel with three simple controls: On, Off and Pulse. The buttons each click gently as they engage. Even the pulse button clicks on as you hold it down and shuts off when you release it. This feature is handy for short bursts of power.
The HFP300SS comes with a 11-cup transparent work bowl, cover with feed tube and food pusher, stainless-steel chopping blade, stainless-steel slicing and shredding discs, plastic dough blade and spatula.
The oval base measures 7 inches wide by 9 inches deep and the processor stands 16 inches tall when fully assembled. For safety reasons, both the work bowl and cover must be twist-locked in position before the machine will operate. We found it quite easy to twist the bowl onto the base; however, it took us a few tries to attach the cover. After several failed attempts, we realized that a typo in the instruction booklet had us twisting the cover from right to left when we should have twisted from left to right. Once that glitch was corrected, the cover snapped into place easily.
