Graco ComfortSport Convertible Car Seat 8635TAC

Date Published: 4/8/08

The Graco ComfortSport Convertible Car Seat 8635TAC performs like a pricey import, but without the hefty cost. Like the more expensive and top-rated Britax car seats, the ComfortSport Convertible Car Seat has an energy-absorbing foam liner. But unlike some other convertible car seats, the ComfortSport can be used rear-facing until a child reaches 30 pounds. Most rear-facing car seats have a weight limit of 22 pounds to 25 pounds. This 30-pound limit is ideal because the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping a child in a rear-facing car seat for as long as possible (until at least one year of age or 20 pounds). Once a child reaches the 30-pound limit, the ComfortSport Convertible Car Seat can be used as a forward-facing car seat for children weighing up to 40 pounds.

Like most car seats currently manufactured, the ComfortSport Convertible Car Seat is Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children (LATCH) equipped. We also like the front-adjustable harness straps. Gone are the days of unlatching the car seat and commencing a tug-of-war with a reluctant harness release! Style-savvy parents will also appreciate the ComfortSport's designer good looks.

The ComfortSport has plenty of practical features we find useful, including a removable, machine washable pad. The seat also has plenty of padding and a headrest. Our child tester finds this to be a cushioned and comfortable seat. Additionally, there are kid-accessible compartments for small toys, drinks and snacks.

The Graco ComfortSport Convertible Car Seat offers plenty of forward-thinking safety features and child-friendly extras in an attractive package for a lower price than imports with similar features.

Pros: Energy-absorbing foam, can be used rear-facing up to 30 pounds, front-adjustable harness straps
Cons: Not as many recline positions as other models

Warranty
1 year
