GoVideo VR5940 VCR/DVD recorder

Date Published: 2/21/08

GoVideo's VR5940 is a multifunction device that fits just about all home video playback and recording functions into one space-saving unit. The VR5940 combines a DVD recorder, progressive scan DVD player, and a four-head hi-fi VCR into an attractive unit with a suggested retail price of about $350.

The VR5940's DVD recorder can record to the four most common recordable DVD formats, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW. It also can record to standard VHS tape, even when the DVD player is playing a disc. An integrated TV tuner enables you to make eight timer recordings in a month to either tape or disc, and the VR5940 can record at four different speeds.

In addition to DVD-Video and the recordable DVD formats, the VR5940 is compatible with VCD, CD, and CD-R/RW, including those loaded with MP3, WMA, and JPEG files.

The front-panel inputs enable the connection of a camcorder for the direct transfer of video to VHS or DVD. If you aren't using the progressive scan output, the unit will pass both DVD and VHS signals from the composite, component, or S-video connections, so there is no need for separate hook-ups. The package includes a standard remote control.

If you are looking for a versatile, easy-to-use combination recorder, the GoVideo VR5940 fits the bill for less than $400.
