Giotto MV 825 Monopod

Date Published: 3/28/06

A monopod such as the Giotto MV 825 often will provide the extra bit of support needed for better picture taking, especially when using long telephoto lenses that are too heavy and bulky to handhold. A one-legged monopod is considerably lighter and far easier to carry about and maneuver when taking pictures in confined spaces. Athletic events, such as baseball games or golf events, where the official photographers are crammed together in confined spaces that prevent the use of a conventional three-legged tripod are perfect scenarios for using a monopod. This new low-cost model has an all-metal leg with a plastic tilt top head that has a quick release plate for easy attachment and release of the camera body. The legs unlock and lock easily for rapid adjustment of the desired extension. The tilt top is easy to set to the required attitude angle. Having a quick release (spare plates are available) makes it easy to remove the camera or lens when the extra support of the monopod is not needed. The Giotto's was easy to use and seems durable in construction for years of use.
