Giant Revive

Date Published: 3/20/03

Revive may sound like a caffeine drink, but it's actually a high-tech-looking, semi-recumbent comfort bike. If you find riding a bicycle uncomfortable--on your back, rear, neck--the Revive might just be your solution. The impressive appearance is matched by a surprisingly comfortable and ergonomic rider positioning on this pedal-powered machine. The rider cockpit (seat height, lumbar support, handlebar position) is easily adjustable for a good fit. Just sit back and pedal away. You'll probably wish you had a drink holder to enjoy the ride, as it even feels somewhat like driving. An adjustable coil spring shock keeps road feedback to a minimum, and the 8-speed Shimano drivetrain provides an adequate gearing range for everything short of all-out sprints or long, steep ascents. Which brings us to the target audience: The Revive is a very fun bike, and a good way to get out and get exercise for those who, for whatever reason, don't like to ride traditional bicycles. The Revive isn't ideally suited toward high-intensity workouts or long-distance journeys. For those who think they might exercise more or get out more if they could just ride something more comfortable than a typical bicycle, it's definitely worth a test ride.
