Giant OCR 2

Giant is the company that started the compact geometry craze on the road, rolling out its TCR line five years ago. Amid criticism, they stuck to their guns and now everyone else has followed suit. The Giant philosophy uses t-shirt sizing (S, M, L) and then fine tunes the frame fit with a selection of seatposts and stems of varying length. The stems feature an adjustable rise mechanism to further tune fit. The OCR 2 frame is made of ALUXX butted aluminum and is one of the lighter, stiffer frames out there. Slung with a 27-speed Shimano Tiagra component group and double-sided clipless pedals, it’s a real deal at $750. The bike’s chief allure is value; Giant is, like its name implies, one of the biggest bike makers in the world. That allows them to run economies of scale and bring you a well-priced bike with good parts. The sizing solution they work out is part of that, though it doesn’t work for every rider. Most of the other compact geometry bikes we know of come in at least four sizes (Specialized makes seven), but Giant does offer a myriad of stem and seatpost options to fit you. It works best for riders in the mid-range of each size–a really big person won’t fit so well on an OCR 2, so if you fit the middle end of the bell curve you’re in luck.
