The Genie Excelerator garage door opener is a screw drive opener designed to open garage doors twice as fast as conventional garage door openers, but closes quietly. The Excelerator will open a sectional garage door at about 14 inches per second and open a swing-up type garage door at a slower rate of 5 inches per second for safety reasons. Both types of doors are closed at about 7 inches per second. The 1/2-horsepower DC motor is one of the quietest on the market and is equipped with a gentle start and stop feature for smooth operation. A polymer-lined rail surrounding the screw drive eliminates metal-to-metal contact between moving parts. A self-diagnostic Safe-T-Beam system alerts homeowners of improper installation or malfunctions. With this system, a closing door will be reversed automatically when objects pass through its infrared beam. This unit includes two incandescent light sockets on a 4-1/2 minute timer.
