General Electric WCVH6800 front-loading washer
Date Published: 7/17/08
The General Electric WCVH6800 front-loading washer offers a unique mix of rotary dial controls, an LED display and adaptive logic. The result is a machine with easy programming, intuitive settings and enough cycle indicators to keep you well informed.
Loaded with useful features, the WCVH6800 makes good use of available new technologies. Simply selecting a cycle prompts this washer to do the rest -- set the water level, temperature and spin speeds. A dispenser handles the application of pretreatment products, and this unit varies soil levels and protects gentle fabrics from over-agitation.
An 18-hour delay start provides a good deal of flexibility for when you choose to run the wash. A maximum rpm of 1100 removes enough water from fabrics to cut drying times, while a second rinse option removes soap residue and fragrances. With a 4.0-cubic-foot interior, this spacious machine can also hold plenty, including a bulky king-size comforter.
In addition to its outstanding controls, this GE model stands out for its ability to match temperatures to fabric requirements. For bacteria control and removing heavy soil, the onboard water heater, called HydroHeater, boosts temperatures for effective results.
Attractive, as well as spacious and fully featured, the only words of caution we have about this model is in relation to repair and reliability. Like most of the high-tech models, GE's WCVH6800 front-loading washer can be more temperamental than a traditional washer and more expensive to repair if it breaks after the warranty has expired.
Pros: Unique controls make this model easy to program, plenty of indicator lights keep you informed of cycle progress, onboard heater, high spin speed saves time and money in the dryer
Cons: Repair of the high-tech systems can be costly if problems occur
