General Electric Profile Spacemaker II Microwave Oven JEM31

Date Published: 4/29/08

GE's Profile Spacemaker II JEM31 microwave oven is a tried and true product that's been an important part of GE's microwave oven lineup for a long time. Its reliability, quality build, excellent features and unique installation options have given it extraordinary staying power in an industry where products quickly come and go.

As manufacturers find ways to produce microwaves for less, the more expensive JEM31 retains all of the quality components of the original design. The JEM31 also continues to offer one of the best sensors in the industry. This sensor accurately prepares a vast array of foods regardless of the number of servings. Use this GE Profile model for precise reheating and for foods such as vegetables, chicken, fish and popcorn.

This spacious Spacemaker II model, with its optional kit, can be hung under a cabinet, solving the problem of where to put the microwave in a crowded kitchen. When counter space is limited, the JEM31 has long been the recommended solution. As an alternative, it can be built in over a 27- or 30-inch wall oven with an optional trim kit. Just be forewarned that in this installation the microwave can start to look a bit lost because so much trim is required.

Unusual in its quality, features and reliability, we don't hesitate to recommend the GE Profile Spacemaker II JEM31, even though it bears a fairly stiff price tag.

Pros: Well built of quality components, excellent sensor, space saving design
Cons: More expensive than other ovens in this size

Warranty
1 year, full; 5 years, magnetron tube
