General Electric Profile PSI23NCRWV built-in refrigerator

Date Published: 8/13/08

We like the way the General Electric Profile PSI23CRWV built-in refrigerator looks -- both inside and out. It has a sleek design and is very nicely illuminated inside, and it has a lot of great features such as state-of-the-art temperature control. However, one very popular fridge feature -- a through-the-door ice and water delivery system -- is curiously missing from this model, which can be a deal-breaker for those looking for a completely fully featured fridge. It also makes this fridge a little on the expensive side when compared to models in its class.

The GE Profile PSI23NCRWV is a medium-capacity built-in fridge in the side-by-side configuration. It has smooth, clean lines and can either be unobtrusive in a kitchen or can completely blend in with your cabinets with the addition of custom front panels. The total capacity of this refrigerator is 22.6 cubic feet, with 14.38 cubic feet in the fresh foods compartment and 8.17 cubic feet in the freezer.

Unfortunately, this GE Profile cabinet-depth refrigerator is not particularly energy efficient. It uses about 643 kWh of electricity each year, which is steep for a mid-size model that doesn't have a through-the-door ice and water delivery system. You'll wind up spending upwards of $71 to run this model each year, which won't exactly break the bank but is a little high.

This model does have a very sophisticated cooling system. The ClimateKeeper system has upfront digital controls, several electronic temperature sensors in both fridge and freezer compartments, and a multi-flow air system that uses fans to keep temperatures consistent throughout the appliance. The freezer's temperature control system monitors the door openings and only defrosts when needed.

The refrigerator door has a total of four bins, one of which is a shallow bin, two of which are pick-off gallon-size bins, and the last of which is an adjustable bin that's sized in the middle. The door also has a can rack that can hold up to five cans and a clear dairy compartment. Within the main fresh foods area are three full-width adjustable glass shelves, two of which have a spillsaver feature; one is a spacesaver shelf that folds in half when not needed and the other two slide out for easy access to foods in the back. The bottom bin has a nifty quick-chill/quick defrost capability, the middle bin has adjustable humidity and the top bin has adjustable temperature control.

Because the GE Profile PSI23NCRWV cabinet-depth refrigerator lacks an in-door ice and water delivery system, there's plenty of room in the freezer. This model has only one white wire shelf, but it also has four slide-out white wire baskets. The door has one shelf and three tilt-out bins, including two that are adjustable. An automatic ice maker is standard. Color choices for this model are white or black, and it also accepts cabinet panels for a custom look in your kitchen.

The GE Profile PSI23NCRWV cabinet-depth refrigerator has nice lines and lots of temperature-management features along with some other decent features, but it isn't particularly energy efficient and lacks a through-the-door ice and water delivery system, which places it on the expensive side for a side-by-side model in this configuration.

Pros: Great temperature control features, clean design, brightly lit
Cons: Not energy efficient, lacks a through-the-door ice and water delivery system

Warranty
1 year, entire appliance; 5 years, sealed system
