General Electric Profile PGS975 slide-in gas range

A few little extras can drive up the price of any product, but in the case of the General Electric Profile PGS975 slide-in gas range, it's these extras that make this model stand out from the crowd.
The PGS975 is similar in many ways to all the other slide-in models, but it manages to differentiate itself by offering an actual stainless-steel range top. So many ranges today offer glass, but for those who want a truly commercial look, there's nothing like the look of all stainless steel.
Commercially styled in more ways than one, GE's model also offers the most powerful high-output burner of any range in this category. With an output of 18,000 Btu, the burner on this range pumps out more heat than even some professional-style products. If you're looking for the most powerful gas burner around, then look no further.
It may be nice to have lots of gas for power, but for us an even bigger concern is lighting. We like lots of it and we like it bright. Equipped with some of the brightest lighting around, this GE model has halogen interior oven lights. We have not seen anything yet that we like better than halogen for lighting in ovens.
When it comes to some of the more typical features we expect to find, the GE PGS975 doesn't disappoint. It offers a convection oven complete with automatic recipe conversion, variable self-cleaning and electronic controls. Less common, but equally desirable features include an unexpected bread proofing mode, convection broiling and a temperature probe for gauging the internal temperature of meats.
We found very little not to like about this top-shelf model from General Electric. Paying a bit more for the convenience of PGS975's little extras may just be worth the added expense.
Pros: Halogen lighting, stainless-steel top, bread proofing, convection broiling, temperature probe, 18,000-Btu burner
Cons: One of the most expensive models in the category
