If these are the most common tasks for which you will be using your microwave oven, this lower cost model makes perfect sense, especially since a sensor is the most accurate type of programmed feature a microwave oven can offer. If, on the other hand, your typical microwave repertoire includes preparing fresh vegetables, baked potatoes, seafood and bacon, you might be better served by a microwave with a more all-inclusive sensor.

As you look at the JE1160 you may be puzzled by the difference between instant-on programs and sensor-controlled programs. Instant-on programs are certainly convenient, but they do not use a sensor in their operation. Instead, these keys rely on simple preset blocks of cooking time -- usually on high power. Sensors use more sophisticated technology that measures moisture in foods, varies power levels automatically and shuts off the oven only when cooking is complete.
