General Electric Profile Harmony DPGT750GCW / DPGT750ECW dryer

An innovative dryer, the General Electric Profile Harmony DPGT750GCW(gas) / DPGT750ECW (electric) has the ability to communicate with its matching washer via the manufacturer's CleanSpeak system. More specifically, this Profile dryer is wired to the Harmony washer, allowing electronic communication between the two. If you're wondering what these two have to talk about, the answer is simple. They talk about your laundry and how to dry it.
CleanSpeak works by transferring information about a wash load to the dryer and setting it automatically so you don't have to make any. Machine-determined optimal settings for each load are selected by the information about each load size and type. Your job is simply to place the wet laundry in the dryer and press start.
Often times this system works well. When it doesn't, you will need to override the automated settings and enter your own preferences. Doing so can be a bit complicated, as this machine has lots of intricate, detailed controls that may take some getting used to. In fact, we suspect that's why this dryer is designed to be set by the washer. Having individuals set it, with all its options, takes some patience. The good news is that once you have manually set cycles you have found to use often or like, you can enter them in the memory, allowing the machines to set them your way in the future.
Obviously this GE dryer is for the techno-junkies among us. Those who prefer simple, easy and straightforward controls are unlikely to take the time needed to learn to operate this electronically sophisticated machine. Those who are fascinated with this ingenuity and want it to do our labor and our thinking for us, however, will love this technological wizard of a dryer
We think that Harmony is a great concept, when it dries our clothes the way we want them. When it doesn't, we find this model to be a bit frustrating to re-program. Either way, what concerns us most is that repairing this complicated model can be difficult. With so many sensitive parts, it may be prone to a variety of different problems, including some that service techs are not necessarily prepared to handle. Good thing that this model comes with a better-than-average warranty. In fact, we'd recommend extending your warranty on this model, should you choose to purchase it.
Pros: Washer automatically sets dryer for you, programs can be overridden manually
Cons: Manual programs can be complicated to set, repairs can be challenging
