General Electric Profile Advantium 120 SCA1001KSS

Date Published: 4/2/07

A member of the exciting new speedcook family of microwave ovens, GE's Profile Advantium 120 SCA1001KSS pumps out microwave favorites, as well as traditional baked foods, with increased speed.

The primary benefit of the SCA1001KSS over other speedcook ovens is that this model runs on 120-volt electric power. You can install this model, plug it into an existing over-the-range outlet and start cooking immediately. Usually there's no electrician needed.

On the other hand, the SCA1001KSS has its disadvantages, the primary one being that it's slower than the faster cooking 240-volt model. In our opinion, you should choose the 240-volt model for its better performance, if at all possible. However, if you are limited to a 120-volt outlet, the SCA1001KSS is worth considering for its benefits over a conventional microwave. It's a good model as a second oven and it has the ability to speed traditional cooking, although not to the degree of the 240-volt model.

When it comes to the microwave functions, this oven offers a superior array of features. A high performance sensor monitors moisture in foods and stops cooking at precisely the right time. Using this sensor can virtually eliminate ruining foods in the microwave. Convenience features to simplify a busy lifestyle abound. The Advantium 120 offers 100 pre-programmed food selections, a sophisticated help program and a recipe saver for your personal favorites.

A two-speed ventilation fan provides a maximum of 300 cfm -- the norm for ovens of this kind. The cooktop lighting is provided by our favorite light source for this purpose: a bright, effective halogen light source.

GE's SCA1001KSS is wrapped in stainless steel, but also comes in white, black or bisque finishes. Although it takes a backseat to 240-volt models, the Advantium 120 makes a good choice over a simple microwave, especially if you're limited to standard household voltage.

Pros: Runs on 120 volt power, excellent sensor, superior lighting
Cons: Less powerful than 240 volt models

Warranty
1 year, full; 5 years, magnetron tube
