General Electric JS968 slide-in electric range
Date Published: 1/16/08
With General Electric's JS968 slide-in electric range, it's hard to decide what we like best, the even heating convection oven, the Tri-Ring element or the warming zone. All of these features just hit the mark.
Of the three features, the newest industry trend is the warming zone. Quick to be accepted, this new concept is cropping up on many ranges, with the JS968 being one of the first to offer it. The warming zone simply adds a low-heating fifth element to the cooking surface. Consumers love it and use it to keep completed foods warm. With all the extra space on many cooktops, it's a wonder no one thought of this sooner.
The second thing we like about the cooking surface is the Tri-Ring element. Since cooking with electricity can be more challenging than with gas, the Tri-Ring gives the cook the ability to match the pan to one of three concentric element sizes -- finally there's a way to get more even pan-to-heat contact on an electric range. You'll love it for tricky foods such as omelets, for sauteing chicken breasts and for delicate sauces like veloute.
Of all the special features on the JS968, the convection oven is the most familiar as it has been around for a good, long time. This type of oven adds a fan to the standard appliance to increase the speed of cooking and ensure a more even distribution of heat. Adding convection to your oven increases its ability to form a nice, even crust on everything from bread to muffins, to poultry and roasts. We recommend you add this excellent feature to your repertoire since it works so well, especially if you're a particularly fussy cook.
We wouldn't hesitate a minute to add GE's JS968 to our kitchen since it comes in a complete selection of finishes to choose from and an enticing group of features that are just a bit better than the average.
