General Electric GSC3200J portable dishwasher
Date Published: 4/2/07
One of two models of portable dishwashers offered by General Electric, the GSC3200J is the least expensive. Both models offer the same internal working and can be expected to perform similarly. But, much like a car, the differences lie in the features.
The GSC3200J will save you about $50 over the step-up model; it offers traditional pushbutton controls instead of upgraded touch-tap pads. A dial is used to start the unit, versus the immediate-on feature of GE's top-of-the-line portable. The other major difference is this model's lack of a delay timer. A delay timer is useful when you're trying to limit hot water usage during a specific time period. If you prefer not to run dishes immediately upon loading and hooking up to the sink, then a delay timer may be a feature you would want to have on your dishwasher. If this is not a concern, then the GSC3200J should suffice.
A fairly basic model, this unit is portable and convertible, which means it can be built-in at a later date. Like most entry-level dishwashers and all portable models, this unit has two wash arms. A full-size silverware basket is included, but it does not have a cover and cannot be split in two for easier loading like the basket in the GE GSC3400J. Five typical cycles are offered on this model, including a cycle for washing china and crystal.
The General Electric GSC3200J offers a hot start feature, which heats water before beginning the cycle. Hotter water in the cycle equates to better cleaning. The feature is especially useful if your water takes unusually long to heat up.
Like most dishwashers, this GE model offers a rinse-aid dispenser, although it lacks an indicator light to let you know when the well is empty. Available in black or white, the GSC3200J is topped by a decorative light-colored wood grain laminate top that adds welcome counter space to any kitchen.
Pros: Offers hot start
Cons: No indicator light for rinse-aid
