General Electric's Spacemaker GMR06AAPBB compact refrigerator is a medium-size model that features a nicely laid-out interior and a fair price.

The GMR06AAPBB has sufficient capacity to hold plenty of study-break snacks for students living in dorms, as well as plenty of room to hold cans and bottles, if you intend to use it as a family room or bar fridge. The GMR06AAPBB has a total of 6.0 cubic feet of room; the fresh foods compartment has approximately 5.5 cubic feet of storage space, while the diminutive freezer has an approximately .5-cubic-foot capacity. The freezer is just large enough to hold a couple of ice trays -- two mini-cube trays are included -- but you certainly won't be able to store a pint of ice cream inside this tiny space.

Small freezer aside, the GMR06AAPBB is a great little unit. The exterior has a basic, no-nonsense design, with a handle at the top of the door. Temperature controls are on the top-right side in the main compartment and are very easy to operate. This is a minimally energy-efficient model -- it uses about 360 kWh of energy each year, so you can expect to pay about $30 annually to operate it.

The door of the GMR06AAPBB has a white wire can rack/dispenser capable of holding eight cans, one full-width top shelf and two half-width shelves. The bottom shelf can accommodate half-gallon beverage containers. The shelves hold items in with a white wire bar; we generally like manufacturers to use something more substantial.

Within the main compartment of the GMR06AAPBB are two white wire shelves. The shelves can be adjusted for height or pulled out entirely to accommodate very large or very tall items. A light is included, and we like the brightness in the interior this model.

The GE GMR06AAPBB is a nicely laid-out medium-size compact refrigerator. It is an excellent choice for a dorm or a family room.
