General Electric FUF20SURWW

Date Published: 4/21/08

While the General Electric FUF20SURWW has all the features you'd expect to find in an automatic-defrost upright freezer with a large capacity, it is not very energy-efficient and does not have any surprising convenience or performance features. Additionally, it is not as good a value as other freezers in this category.

Automatic-defrost freezers have the added benefit of easy maintenance, since you won't be bothered with having to periodically defrost the ice build-up. You can also put automatic-defrost models anywhere in the home, where you'd have to sit a manual-defrost freezer in a place that can handle the defrost run-off.

The FUF20SURWW uses approximately 763kWh of electricity annually, so you can expect to pay around $82 annually to operate this appliance, considering current energy costs; this means that you will spend nearly $7 per month to run this freezer, on average.

With its large 20.3-cubic-foot capacity, the FUF20SURWW can hold an enormous amount of frozen food. On the door, it has five full-width fixed shelves, as well as a full-width shelf that has a tilt-out white wire gate. Two of the door shelves have ridges on the bottom surface that allow them to hold cans of juice concentrate securely without rattling in the door.

Within the main compartment of the FUF20SURWW are five white wire shelves; one of the shelves is adjustable for height, while the other four are fixed in place. There is also a bottom white wire storage basket that pulls out easily when empty and is a little sluggish when the basket is loaded with heavy frozen foods. Additionally, this unit comes with a lock and key to protect your frozen foods investment.

The FUF20SURWW is available only in white.

The General Electric FUF20SURWW is a large frost-free upright freezer with plenty of storage space that lacks extra features and is not particularly energy efficient.

Pros: Large, brightly lit, sturdy bins and shelves
Cons: Lacks some extra features, not energy efficient

Warranty
1 year, parts and labor
