General Electric Front-Load Dryer DBVH512EF/GF

Date Published: 6/28/06

The second half of GE's front-loading laundry pair, the dryer DBVH512EF/GF, makes an attractive partner to GE's high-efficiency washer, the WBVH6240F. Available in gas or electric versions, this dryer offers a spacious 7.0 cubic feet of capacity, equal to that of comparable front-load models. A fairly recent arrival on the market, this unit requires a considerably smaller investment than existing front-loaders and is expected to encourage price reductions throughout the category. If you've been holding off on purchasing a new front-loading laundry pair, now may be the time to make a move as prices on this technology begin to fall.

Feature-wise, the General Electric Front-Load Dryer DBVH512EF/GF offers most top-of-the-line options (with the exception of a stainless-steel drum) and is comparable to many other front-loading dryers. Since there is not a great deal that sets one dryer apart from another, you can limit your comparisons to a few simple features. This dryer offers the most important feature, a sensor that protects your clothing from the damage of over-drying. Other helpful features include a full range of cycles and multiple temperature options; in this case, 12 cycles can handle any load from delicates to heavy, durable cottons. Dryness level settings are included but allow you only to tailor the dryness of the highest or cotton setting to your exacting specifications. Also provided are a delay start, a drying rack and an end-of-cycle signal.

Versatile installation options allow this model to be used stacked, side-by-side, or elevated on an optional pedestal. It is available in white or graphite gray. Despite a report of a few initial failures, the looks, features, and especially the pricing of this front-load dryer are garnering it the favor of many satisfied consumers.
