General Electric CustomStyle GSC22QGTWW built-in refrigerators

Date Published: 2/21/08

A solid and nice-looking built-in refrigerator, the General Electric CustomStyle GSC22QGTWW is a great medium-capacity fridge in a side-by-side configuration. It has a capacity of 21.5 cubic feet, which is a nice size for a built-in model. Within the fresh foods compartment, you'll find 13.62 cubic feet of space; within the freezer, you'll find 7.83 cubic feet of space. Although this model refrigerator has a relatively low price tag for a side-by-side built-in model, it still packs some nice features in. For instance, GE's GSC22QGTWW has a through-the-door ice and water dispenser that works via a changeable SmartWater integral filter. The lighted dispenser has a lockout feature to prevent mischievous children from playing with the water and ice delivery.

This model loses points for an energy usage of 679 kWh per year--costing you $56 per year--which is on par with many side-by-side models, but is steep for the average medium-size fridge. Still, this refrigerator is a good choice if you don't mind shelling out a few extra dollars each year to run it. The main compartment is brightly lit and has a no-nonsense design, with two extra large humidity-controlled crisper drawers and a snack pan. There are three adjustable, removable, slide-out glass shelves with a spillsaver feature, in addition to a fixed shelf. The door has one narrow-depth fixed bottom shelf plus three bins, two of which are adjustable for height and can accommodate gallon-size containers. There's also a full-width dairy locker.

In the freezer, you'll find three wire shelves, including a fixed half-shelf and two that slide out, plus a wire freezer basket that slides out and a quick-freeze shelf above the ice storage. The door has four shelves, two of which can be adjusted for height. GE's CustomStyle side-by-side refrigerator comes in a choice of white, black, or stainless steel.
