Garmin Edge 305 GPS system

Date Published: 3/15/06

For years, cyclists have put up with navigation systems designed for cars and hikers, but with the Garmin Edge 305, there is finally a GPS system designed specifically for them. The Edge 305 features wireless transmission of speed and cadence from a self-calibrating sensor mounted on the chainstay, and it is available with a built-in heart rate monitor with chest strap. The main unit mounts on either the bike's stem or handlebars, and it is easily removable for downloading data and recharging.

The Edge 305 has a high-sensitivity SiRFstarIII receiver that is designed to work even through dense foliage or when in deep canyons (natural or man-made). It also finds a cyclist's initial location much faster than previous portable GPS systems. In addition to tracking course and distance, the Edge 305 utilizes barometric pressure to record altitude, providing elevation profiles of a particular course.

The Edge 305 has many training tools, such as a virtual partner that shows a digital cyclist to help riders keep pace with their desired speed. It will set up a course complete with check points so riders can try to match a previously recorded time.

The Edge 305 has a rechargeable battery that will last about 12 hours. From the casual weekend warriors to the serious athletes training for their next competition, cyclists will appreciate the features and benefits of the Garmin Edge 305.
