Frigidaire FDS252RB 18-inch portable dishwasher
Date Published: 1/30/08
Short on space, but desperate for a dishwasher? Consider the Frigidaire FDS252RB portable dishwasher on wheels. Just 18 inches wide, it can be stored where full-size models just won't fit. When ready to run a load, move it to the nearest sink and hook it up to the faucet and a power supply with the ability to handle an additional 8.5 amps.
Offered in white only, this model is equipped with an updated gray laminate top in place of the usual butcher block design. This change makes it ideal for many lighter, brighter kitchen designs. The FDS252RB can also be built in at a later date should you decide to remodel.
Although smaller than a typical dishwasher, this model holds a surprising amount of dishes and is a perfect choice for apartments, mobile homes, condos and weekend getaways. It offers two racks, with a small silverware basket and is equipped with one large wash arm. The controls are standard for the industry. Five pushbuttons and a dial are used to set the typical cycles of normal, heavy, pots & pans, light and rinse only. Unlike some earlier models, the FDS252RB offers a rinse-aid dispenser with an indicator light that alerts you when a solution refill is needed.
Like all specialty dishwashers, this model is expensive considering its small size and basic features. Choosing this design is unlikely to save you any money over a full-size unit. If you have the space available, a full-size unit is almost always a better buy.
However, if space-savings and the convenience of having the dishes done for you are your priorities, the Frigidaire FDS252RB is one of the few remaining portable models that's up to the job.
Pros: Rinse-aid indicator, updated gray laminate top, fits where full size models won't, can be built-in later
Cons: Offers less value for the money than a full-size model
