Frigidaire FAA086P7A air conditioner
Date Published: 5/16/08
The Frigidaire FAA086P7A has 8,000 Btu of cooling power -- enough to cool a large room, but not quite enough muscle to cool multiple rooms. It has a nondescript appearance, with a plain white exterior. It comes with a pleated extension on either side, which makes it easier to install this model in a window.
The size of the FAA086P7A is average: it's about 12.5 inches high and about 18.5 inches wide. With multi-directional vents, air can be targeted in one of eight directions. It has a sleep mode and a 24-hour On/Off timer. It has a better warranty than some of its competitors; it comes with a full 1-year warranty and a 5-year warranty on the air conditioner's sealed system.
The Frigidaire FAA086P7A uses an ion filter to help clean the air is it passes through the unit. We like this feature, and the filter is reusable and easy to clean. At first glance, this Frigidaire model has many features we typically look for in an air conditioner. It has a remote to go with its electronic controls, and you can program the settings for Cool, Energy Saver and Fan, along with a 24-hour timer, Auto Cool and Sleep modes. Our biggest complaint is that it is quite noisy -- at any of its three speeds. We tried running this model with the fan off, but we still reached for the ear protection. Even when running the fan at its lowest speed, it is surprisingly noisy, so the faster speeds are simply too loud for this air conditioner to be truly useful. The energy-saving setting, which causes the air conditioner fan to cycle on and off, is audibly disturbing.
Although the price of the Frigidaire FAA086P7A is attractive, don't be fooled: For just a few dollars more, you could buy a model that cools just as effectively, but won't jar your ears.
