Frigidaire Affinity ATF7000E Front-Load Washer
Date Published: 2/1/07
Not to be outdone by other brands, Frigidaire has unveiled its answer to high-tech, efficient, front-loading laundry machines in eye-popping colors -- in this case the Affinity ATF7000E. Selling for less than the Whirlpool and Sears front-loaders, this machine is most comparable to the GE front-loader WEVH6240.
Like the GE model, the AFT7000E offers an internal heater that serves to maintain the water temperature after the tub has filled. This feature is useful for sanitizing, removing ground in dirt and eliminating greasy stains. Since the heater kicks in only in the sanitary cycle, this cycle is the one to choose for the tough stains mentioned above. The other cycles fill using ATS (automatic temperature selection), which is a preprogrammed system for determining proper temperature for selected cycles other than sanitary.
A second selling feature of this model is its depth. Measuring just 27 inches front to back, this model takes up less space than other front-loaders and is the model of choice for many buyers shopping for high-efficiency washers for laundry rooms where space is limited. Be aware, however, that the door on this machine is quite large. When taking measurements, be sure to take the swing of the door into consideration before purchase.
Like other manufacturer's high-efficiency washers, this model relies on an automated system that programs care for your clothing automatically based on type. Water temperatures, spin speeds and rinse cycles are all selected by the washer to meet the assumed requirements of your load. Experimentation with the various cycles may be required to get just the results you're looking for.
Cycle options included an extra rinse for more efficient detergent removal and an extended spin option, which is useful for removing excess water and shortening drying times. Like most HE (high efficiency) washers, this model makes efficient use of water and electricity and offers a durable stainless-steel drum.
A more unusual feature is the interior light. When locked and in operation, this light makes it possible to see what's happening inside the drum. Interesting perhaps, but this is just one more thing that can require maintenance down the road.
Offered in arctic white, glacier blue or black diamond, the ATF7000E provides a fresh look to the updated laundry room. As a lower priced alternative, consider the Frigidaire ATF6000E offered only in white with a slightly lower maximum spin speed of 1050 rpm versus 1100 rpm.
Pros: Onboard heater, attractively priced for features
Cons: Initial hinge being updated
