Frigidaire 30-Inch Gas Range GLGFZ386FC

Date Published: 10/26/07

The GLGFZ386FC sets the standard from which other Frigidaire freestanding gas ranges should be compared. You can easily move up or down Frigidaire's lineup to save some money or add extra features like convection, but the GLGFZ386FC offers the best combination of performance and price.

The GLGFZ386FC has all the features desired by the typical buyer, including an attractive exterior, sealed burners, a large self-cleaning oven, convenient electronic ignition, heavy-duty cast-iron grates and often can be found for less than $1,000.

In addition to these essentials, the GLGFZ386FC includes some very useful extras. For example, the fifth burner in the center of the range gives you a space to keep completed dishes warm until serving time. Also welcome is the deep-sump top cooking surface, which is adept at containing any unfortunate spills. You can't help but appreciate anything that makes your cleanup easier. Another big draw is the GLGFZ386FC's smudge-resistant EasyCare stainless-steel finish that minimizes the fingerprints that can be left behind on stainless cooking appliances. However, keep in mind that most stainless appliances now come with some sort of smudge-resistant finish.

Versatile burners sit atop the GLGFZ386FC. The most powerful produces an impressive 16,000 Btu to make quick work of boiling and stir-frying. At 500 Btu, the lowest-output burner serves as a warming zone. Above all the burners is an extensive set of flat, continuous and interlocking grates, which is perfect for moving pots from burner to burner as new foods are added to the evening's menu.

With a good price and fine features, this range offers plenty for the money. For a great all-around gas range with the beauty of stainless steel, check out the Frigidaire GLGFZ386FC.

Pros: Main-oven broiling, fifth burner for warming, sealed burners, EasyCare stainless finish
Cons: EasyCare finish loses some of its appeal when you consider that most stainless appliances now come with some resistance to smudges
